When Japan’s last oriental white stork died in 1971 it was thought that the birds had disappeared forever. The wetlands where the stork nested had been irrigated, and development damaged its habitat.

This is a remarkable success story of birds bred in captivity and released into the wild. I’m sure bird lovers throughout the world will rejoice to hear that the endangered oriental Stork, is back in Japan again.

really heartening! Does anyone know what is the present condition of the great Indian vultures? There was a news of their rapid decline some time ago.
